Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Sr. Scrum Master!


About the role

As a Senior Scrum Master you will be accountable for planning and monitoring the day-to-day aspects of Lean-Agile processes for Symetra teams. You may lead one or more scrum teams and work with cross functional teams. In addition, you will assist in team formation activities, or work on a team with a high degree of complexity or ambiguity. These teams support initiatives that are critical to Symetra’s business functions. You’ll work closely with the Product Owner to understand backlog priorities, goals, and scope, and facilitate team discussions to deliver agreed upon outcomes. The Scrum Master is an Agile champion, driving the team through agile events such as Sprint planning, daily scrum, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and demos. They advocate changes to the team process, to ensure continued improvements in software quality and delivery.


Responsibilities

  • Coach the team(s) on Agile practices and evolves those based on specific needs.
  • Assists the team in self-organization, fosters impediment resolution and guides the team to find solutions to impediments.
  • Holds team accountable for their committed deliverables.
  • Helps team with estimations.
  • Provides dashboards and metrics to understand how the team is performing (cumulative flow diagrams, velocity etc.) and helps the team inspect and adapt based on those metrics.
  • Builds a safe trusting team environment.
  • Facilitate decision making and conflict resolution.
  • Pro-actively manages risks and dependencies.
  • Assists with internal communications and improves transparency.
  • Manages multiple dependent workstreams.
  • Supports the Product Owner on maintaining a refined product backlog.
  • Facilitates cross-team communication and planning.
  • Supports long-range release planning activities
  • Builds consensus among multiple stakeholders
  • Able to influence without authority.
  • Understands software delivery and governance processes.
  • Contributes to and champions process improvements in Agile practices both within the team and within the practice and coaches team members to higher levels of agile maturity.

Compensation

Salary Range: $107,200 - $178,700 plus eligibility for annual bonus program


Your education, experience and skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Business or discipline related Information Systems. Work experience can be substituted for educational credentials.
  • 10 years of business/industry work experience.
  • 3+ years using Agile software delivery processes.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodology and frameworks like Scrum, Kanban.
  • Understand Software Development Lifecycle and release processes.
  • Familiarity with Agile board tools like Azure DevOps.
  • Participated or materially helped in the transition from non-lean practices (i.e. waterfall) to lean-practices like Scrum.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior management across multiple divisions.
  • Leads resolution of complex issues.
  • Ability to track and manage risks.
  • Ability to use different Agile techniques (retrospective formats, agile metrics, defect tracking methods).
  • Certified Scrum Master, Agile Certification, PMI-ACP, or other Agile experience.
