Major Purpose:
Savage’s Rail and Switch Operator will service the PBF refinery by by safely performing activities related to the rail unloading process such as switching railcars and operating locomotives.

Responsibilities / Job Duties:
  • Work as a team to move railcars throughout the refinery, acting as a switch operator, grounds person or locomotive operator
  • Guiding the locomotive through the refinery by aligning switches
  • Communicate with other train crew members and other invested parties, by radio, signals or by other means to aid in the movement and operation of trains
  • Understands critical service requirements and see they are met by reviewing the days switch list, work with dispatch to understand the priorities for the day and documenting performed activities
  • Perform general maintenance ("bolt on –bolt off") as well as cleaning and housekeeping such as basic preventative maintenance on the locomotive, track inspection, keeping switches free and clear of debris, snow and ice
  • Take an active role in safety program including attendance to all safety meetings, adhere to procedures and ensure safe behaviors of self and coworkers
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Understands, or willing to learn, safe railroad operations
  • Ability to perform basic maintenance
  • Basic computer skills
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical, reference checks, drug screen, motor-vehicle report and criminal background check
  • Must possess or qualify for a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC card)
  • Must be able to attend and pass all test associated with job related coursework. This includes, but it not limited to: OSHA, HazMat and FRA related courses
  • Able to reliably fulfill a set rotational schedule (days, nights, 24/7/365).
Education/Experience:
  • Work experience in an industrial environment
  • A high school diploma, or equivalent
  • Current/valid driver license
