Position: Application Developer II

Department: Information Technology

Reports to: IT Application Delivery Manager

Position Description: As an experienced developer you will collaborate with team members to build software using languages and technologies of the .NET framework. You will create applications from scratch, configure existing systems and provide user support. You will work with business units and development teams to develop and extend new system capabilities as defined within the technical and/or functional specifications. You will stay current on the latest insurance processes and related IT advancements to automate and modernize business processes

  • Work with Technical Leads and Architect in defining, designing, building, managing and maintaining technical solutions in accordance with Company IT SDLC processes, standards and best practices.
  • Participate in requirements analysis.
  • Write clean, scalable code using .NET programming languages.
  • Test and deploy applications and systems.
  • Revise, update, refactor and debug code.
  • Improve existing software.
  • Develop documentation throughout the software development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Serve as an expert on applications and provide technical support
  • Participate in code reviews and validation of deliverables as warranted by SDLC.
  • Manage enhancements and changes, and resolution of incidents and problems for technical solutions in accordance with Company IT service delivery and support principles and SLAs
  • Adhere to established enterprise SDLC and compliance methodologies, processes, governance and best-practices to ensure effective and efficient utilization of hardware, software and human
  • Conducts meetings and presentations to share ideas and findings
  • Works independently on low to mid-complexity projects and with guidance on complex projects
  • Looks for and promotes ways to improve operations
  • Coordination of code and data migration tasks based on project schedules, which may be required outside normal business hours.

Skills:

  • 3 years software development experience
  • Familiarity with the ASP.NET framework, SQL Server and design/architectural patterns (e.g. Model-View-Controller (MVC))
  • Knowledge of at least one of the .NET languages (e.g. C#, Visual Basic .NET) and HTML5/CSS3
  • Familiarity with architecture styles/APIs (REST, RPC)
  • Knowledge and experience with integration architecture patterns, standards, frameworks or tools.
  • Hands-on experience is required with design and implementation of security standards and patterns.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail skills
  • BS/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Proficient in P&C insurance industry operations, processes, and business terminology a plus
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SDLC and agile methodologies
  • Excellent oral communications and written documentation skills
  • A track record of following through on commitments.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills.
