A Utility Machine Operator operates or tends different machines in the sewing department by performing the following duties.

Work Week: Monday- Friday

1st shift- 7am-3pm

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

Operate various machinery within the sewing department.

Heat Seal: Effectively run gloves through the machine ensuring all thread is not unraveling. Box accordingly to customer order.

Bagging Machine: Correctly bag by quantity and styles per customer order.

Cutting Saw: Cut appropriate sleeves in the correct area and measure to ensure proper measurements. Count and put in tubs.

Heat Transfer: Make sure machine is at correct temperature before starting process. Place gloves on machine ensuring the stamp is on the correct spot on the gloves.

Formers: Put gloves on formers to ensure no defects are present (holes, strings)

Sleeve Puller/Cutter: Turns sleeves on a pole to produce 2 ply sleeves, cut single layer sleeves into specified lengths. Stacks sleeves in desired quantities as determined by the job ticket and prepares for transfer to sewing.

  • Must strive for perfection per customer requirements on all garments.
  • Monitors machine operation to detect problems and malfunctions.
  • Activates and adjusts machine controls to regulate speed.
  • Examines and measures finished good to verify conformances to standards.
  • Records amount of materials processed in production reports.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 2 years similar industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Mechanical skills required.
  • Skilled in the use of sewing machine and other mechanical equipment.
