WORKER'S COMPENSATION CLAIMS ADJUSTER (RISK MANGEMENT)
Job description
Under the general direction of the Manager of Worker’s Compensation, receives and reviews documents and claims forms relative to workers’ compensation claims by Cook County employees to determine compensability. Contacts employee, employer and claimant’s physician to determine the extent of injury. Verifies medical records indicating changes in treatment. Calculates and authorizes the payment of lost wages by monitoring the employee’s time off. Authorizes medical bill payments. Authorizes all payments within the guidelines of the Illinois Worker’s Compensation Act, using appropriate cost containment vehicles. Monitors and maintains claim files (paper and computer files) until file resolution. Performs other duties as assigned.
There are multiple positions open.
- High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate is required.
- Seven (7) years full-time work experience administering and adjusting Worker’s Compensation claims is required.

- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree is required.
- Three (3) years full-time work experience administering and adjusting Worker’s Compensation claims is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate in Claims and/or Associate in Risk Management designations.
- Experience utilizing a claims management data system.
Candidates will be required to produce original required documents (e.g., current driver’s license, diploma, school transcript, certifications, etc.) listed on the Notice of Job Opportunity within five (5) days of being extended an offer, in writing, by the Bureau Chief of BHR (or designee).
- Degrees awarded outside of the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States’ territories and Canada, must be credentialed by either the World Education Services (WES) or Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE).
